oh and then when you glue them to the ballon, mod podge is your best bet :o)and if you finish it with another coat of mod podge it will protect it and make it sturdy enough not to fall apart.

You don't cut the magazine into thin strips, that would be A LOT of work. Instead, ou roll up each paper diagonally, starting from un corner, tightly until you get to the other corner then glue (I used regular glue). Once you have the page looking like a thin hollow stick and pointy on the ends, you start rolling one end, tightly until you get to the other end. because it's thinner there, you just glue the end. if you want to make them bigger add another roll around it until you get the desired size. It's pretty cool and time consuming if you want to find something to do while watching the kids or TV. Kinda like knitting ;)

I'm making something now and using mod lodge glue from most craft stores. Works pretty good and fairly cheap. I'm using the glossy finish. Dries clear.

To avoid popping, you can use wallpaper-glue, but make sure this is thick en sticky enough, so it will hold the paper rolls!

I'm interested in doing this with several preteens, and I like the idea with the balloon, it would be much more cost effective with 30 some kids doing this project. What glue do you use to position the spirals around the balloon without popping it?

This how you make it:
Cut recycled magazines, fold every page into thin strips and then roll them into small spirals. Glue every spiral together (use a gluepistol if possible). Glue the spirals together in the shape you want (ore use a mall).

Here you find a verry clear English tutorial: http://markmontano.typepad.com/mark-montano/2010/06/rolled-magazine-vase.html

Have fun!
